DOG BITES
Dog attacks and dog bites can be traumatic experiences leaving victims both physically and emotionally scared. Ontario has special laws dealing with dog attacks. These laws are found in the The Dog Owners' Liability Act or "DOLA" states that the owner of the dog is vicariously liable for the acts of their dog. The dog owner assumes full responsibility for its dog's actions, usually regardless of the circumstances surrounding the attack. Dog attacks should immediately be reported to the Municipality's Animal Control Services branch so they may conduct their own investigation. Some dogs have a history of attacks or disease which need to be recorded by Animal Control. Victims of dog attacks should also visit the hospital following the attack to ensure they have not contracted any disease and to ensure that their wounds heal properly. If left unattended, dog bites may leave permanent scars in unsightly places. It's not just pit-bulls or doberman's that bite. All dogs can bite and leave nasty scars. So make sure that your dog is properly trained, leashed or musled as required by law.
